Sustainability is more than a way of working; it’s a way of being. Tuning into nature’s gifts ensures the beauty that surrounds us will continue to be enjoyed well into the future.

Master planners Duany Plater-Zyberk are renowned for their deft design touch as well as their environmental sensitivity. Cloudrock is a union of architecture and nature under the guiding planning principles of New Urbanism, whose very design encourages a healthy dependence on feet and bicycle, not on automobiles. Take, for instance, the village with its narrow streets and dense lot configurations. Together, they intrinsically incorporate sustainability by increasing the density and decreasing the distance between locations. This encourages both a healthy lifestyle and a healthy use of land. Notice the pedestrian-friendly circulation networks and hiking and biking trails. They thoughtfully and artfully blend to create an air of neighborliness and further promote the use of feet and bicycle. Another welcoming sight is the water-wise desert landscaping that paints the public spaces and private courtyard gardens with brilliant native plants. This allows domestic wildlife to flourish in the midst of the low impact development.

All told, Cloudrock stretches more than 2,000 acres beneath the brilliant blue sky. It is a story about human nature that’s 80% nature and 20% human; a ratio most will find quite livable.
