A popular pastime in Moab is exploring the scenic waterways. The Colorado River Daily is one such oasis. It’s Utah’s most popular river trip. Starting in Hittle Bottom and running 13-miles along the beautiful red rock cliffs to Takeout Beach, it offers beginners and experts alike the beauty and thrill of a commanding river outing. If you’re hit with a déjà vu moment, relax. The Daily has been the backdrop for many westerns and TV commercials.
National Geographic called Westwater Canyon, “The West’s Best Short Whitewater Trip.” We think you’ll agree. Located in the northeast of Moab, its 17-miles of snaking river that meanders through a 200 foot deep inner canyon are known as the Precambrian “black rock.” The canyon is home to the historic Miner’s Cabin and the Outlaw Cave.

Canyonlands National Park is home to southeast Utah’s renowned Cataract Canyon. It’s one of the most remote and breathtaking spots found anywhere in the 48 contiguous states. A “Cat Trip” down this 112-mile river run is filled with white-knuckle whitewaters and counts 26 rapids, some of which are Class V. Respite from the river can be found along the river’s edge, which offers a rare chance to view up close the rock art and cliff dwellings of Native Americans from long ago.
The Green River carves through the deepest canyon in Utah, the Desolation Canyon. The 75-mile whitewater trip is like taking a trip through history. Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid spent time here, as did the Ute Indians who created the rock art along the canyon walls. Desolation Canyon is now a National Historic Landmark to honor John Wesley Powell and his expeditions.
Tackling the whitewaters or dipping your feet into the cool water from the river’s edge, no matter how you spend your time on Moab’s rivers we’re sure you’ll have the time of your life. So, plan your adventure or tap an expert river guide at one of the many outfitters dotting the landscape. An oasis of adventure waits.
